7-Day Morocco Itinerary Without a Car: Marrakech, Sahara & Fes
This route is built for a first trip where the Sahara matters more than collecting cities. Start in Marrakech, use a one-way three-day Sahara tour to move east and north, then finish in Fes instead of returning to Marrakech.

Days 1–2: keep Marrakech independent
You do not need a vehicle to fill two useful days in Marrakech. Stay somewhere that makes walking practical, use local taxis only when needed, and keep the schedule loose enough to recover from the flight.
With only one week, I would not use one of these two days on a long return day trip unless that destination matters more to you than having time in Marrakech itself.
Days 3–5: use the Sahara as the route between cities
The three-day Marrakech to Fes shared route works here because the Sahara is already one of the main reasons for the trip. You cross the High Atlas, continue through southern Morocco to Merzouga, then finish in Fes instead of driving back to Marrakech.
This is not the fastest way to travel from Marrakech to Fes. If the desert is not important to you, use the train instead and give those days to the cities.
Day 6: give Fes one real day
Do not arrive from the Sahara and immediately leave again. A full Fes day gives the route a proper second city instead of turning Fes into an airport stop.
If Chefchaouen is essential, this seven-day version is too tight for me to add it without sacrificing either Marrakech, Fes or the desert pacing.
Day 7: leave from the side of the country you reached
The clean version of this route finishes with a flight from Fes or an onward rail connection. If your only workable flight is from Marrakech, this itinerary loses much of its advantage because you have to cross the country again.
What I would not add
- Chefchaouen on top of this route
- A return to Marrakech after finishing in Fes
- Essaouira unless you remove time elsewhere
- Another long day trip just because there is an empty square on the calendar
