Best Morocco Tours
As a Moroccan, I was born, raised, and still reside in Morocco. I see my country with a different set of eyes. In this article, I will try to talk to you about some of the most famous tourist destinations and how we as Moroccans see them. Hopefully, I won’t make anyone offended lol.
Before I start talking about different cities I would like to start with the place where I was born and raised as it has everything to do with who I am and how my brain functions nowadays and would probably be the background basis of this analysis.
Every year, thousands of tourists and travelers swarm to the Southeast (Assamr). However, the winter exposes that the region requires extremely special attention due to its location among mountains and rivers. People still have to walk across flooded streets to reach to public places such as schools, souks, and hospitals.
The rain reveals a fact that government leaders should have been aware of for many years. Roads and bridges must be constructed efficiently. People are continually protesting the poor quality of bridges and roads since many people are killed in traffic accidents on roads leading to southeastern cities every month.
In terms of resources, the region is not lacking. It is an international movie destination, as well as vital for tourism, natural resources, and a large number of manual workers.
I come from Kelaat M’gouna, the main village in the Roses Valley in the southeast region (ASSAMR). Which is the most tourist-dependent region in Morocco as it serves probably more than half its population. And its people are known nationwide for being “good people”.
But since I’m one of them I know it’s more of a diplomatic defense mechanism to not ruin any upcoming relationship that might benefit you in the future with your current interlocutor. We are the kind of people that try to be 5-6 steps ahead of something. It doesn’t always work, but you can’t blame a man for trying lol.
Casablanca is a port city and commercial hub in western Morocco, fronting the Atlantic Ocean. The city’s French colonial legacy is seen in its downtown Mauresque architecture, a blend of Moorish style and European art deco. Standing partly over the water, the enormous Hassan II Mosque, completed in 1993, has a 210m minaret topped with lasers directed toward Mecca.
Casablanca is a massive urban center with nothing to offer tourists other than the Hassan II mosque and a walk along the Ain Diab seaside corniche or the Mohamed V Boulevard downtown; everything else is corporate headquarters, manufacturing plants, and a large number of housing projects (where lives some weird minded and fast-paced talkers haha). With a population of more than 3.3 million people, the city operates at the same speed around the clock. I’m sure Greta Thunberg won’t put this city on her bucket list of places to visit because of the insane taxi drivers and commercial trucks that can’t stop polluting the environment. It’s essentially the Moroccan equivalent of New York.
Morocco’s capital, Rabat, is located on the banks of the Bouregreg River and the Atlantic Ocean. It is well-known for its Islamic and French-colonial landmarks, including the Kasbah of the Udayas. This Berber-era royal fort overlooks the coast and is encircled by elegant French-designed gardens. The city’s famed Hassan Tower is a 12th-century minaret that towers over mosque ruins.
It’s more of a government-oriented city. Unlike Casablanca, Rabat is more appealing to tourists since it has some excellent historical sites. Rabat’s residents are a little stiffer and unhelpful, although this is mainly to the city’s clear French influence, which still dominates. Also, French is commonly used in the city because it was a language for the social elite in the late twentieth and early twenty-first century, and for me, they’re a little stuck with it haha.
Northern Morocco is a beautiful place to visit all year. Winters might be a little cold, which is something to bear in mind if you’re seeking the sun. Summer is the most popular season for visitors due to the beautiful weather. This, however, means that there will be more crowds as the country fills up with tourists.
Prices are frequently higher in the summer as well, due to increased demand. A Spring or Fall trip may be a better alternative for those hoping to avoid crowds.
Whatever sort of travel experience you have, you will not regret visiting the northern Moroccan territory. The people of the north are more straightforward, with no mind games or poor sportsmanship. For us Moroccans, they’re more notorious for narco and human trafficking, as well as being filthy rich (although as a tour driver and frequent visitor, I know better because this is far from the case). However, this is extremely typical to hear). Beautiful scenery, kind people, and a great location for Moroccan cannabis sampling.
Fez is a city in Morocco that is known as the country’s cultural center. It is most famous for its Fes El Bali walled medina, which has medieval Marinid architecture, bustling souks, and an old-world vibe. Religious schools like the 14th-century Bou Inania and Al Attarine, both furnished with magnificent cedar carvings and beautiful tile work, may be seen in the medina.
Fez is a Moroccan term that synonyms “old money,” and when we hear it, we immediately think of the Rockefellers haha. This city is now a history lover’s Disneyland, as well as a promising shopping destination for handmade leather items. The Fez people are notorious for their unique articulation and snobbish tone, and you can sometimes sense the smugness in their facial expressions, which I believe it’s included in their DNA lol.
On Morocco’s Atlantic coast, Essaouira is a port city and resort. Its medina (old town) is fortified by Skala de la Kasbah seaside defenses built by European engineers in the 18th century. The walls are lined with old brass cannons, and there are ocean panoramas. The city’s curved beach is ideal for surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing due to the city’s strong “Alizée” trade winds.
A small port town with an artsy-craftsy vibe that is quite the attraction. Personally, I enjoy being there and experiencing its feelings. If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation, this is the place to be. I really want to describe it a little bit more, but I just don’t have the vocabulary. It’s a spot you should go to by yourself. And even my evaluation of its people is unclear since they are so varied from one another that they cannot be defined in a single group LOL.
Marrakesh, a historic imperial city in western Morocco, is an important economic hub with mosques, palaces, and gardens. The medina is a densely packed, walled medieval city from the Berber Empire, with winding alleys and vibrant souks (marketplaces) selling traditional fabrics, ceramics, and jewelry. The Moorish minaret of the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque, visible for miles, is a symbol of the city.
This is Morocco condensed into a single city. If you don’t have enough time to visit the entire country, a few days in this city will be enough if you know how to plan it. Marrakech offers a little bit of everything, so whatever your interests are, this city has something for you. It might be a little more expensive than other places at times, but you still get to enjoy the unique Marrakech lifestyle. It’s people who are easygoing and cheerful; laughter and pleasure are in their DNA, so don’t be shocked if you’re strolling down the street and a group of strangers start singing, dancing, and laughing in a Bollywood-style scene haha.
And here’s a pro tip: step right into the middle of a group and start singing “Atika Atikawa” and watch the magic happen, as everybody starts singing and dancing with you LOL.
Agadir is the capital of Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane province, located on Morocco’s southern Atlantic coast in the foothills of the Anti-Atlas Mountains. It is a popular tourist destination because of its golf courses, large curved beach, and coastal promenade dotted with cafés, restaurants, and bars. The hilltop kasbah of Agadir was wrecked in a 1960 earthquake, but its original ancient wall still stands.
A Russian traveler’s fantasy hahaha I’m not sure why, but Russians like this city more than any other. More of an all-inclusive resort location with stunning beaches and a variety of enjoyable water sports such as boating, jet skiing, and many types of surfing. Its residents are laid-back and entertaining. If you’re searching for a premium resort holiday, Agadir is the place to go.
