About Tinghir Oasis & Todgha Valley

Todgha Valley is a place of natural beauty and historical significance, located in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. It’s one of many beautiful places that make up Tinghir Province, which is home to some of the country’s most spectacular sights.

The Todgha Valley is a mountainous region that runs parallel to the Anti-Atlas range, which also encompasses the Ourika Valley.

The valley stretches from the village of Todgha (its namesake) in the north all the way down to Midelt in the south. It’s known for its rich history—it was once a haven for bandits and criminals who hid out in the mountains, as well as an important stop on the caravan route between Marrakech and Sijilmasa—but it’s also famous for its natural beauty. The area boasts stunning views that include snow-capped peaks and verdant valleys.

Tinghir Oasis & Todgha Valley Highlights

Walk along the west side to discover a world hidden beneath the palm canopy. Under the shady protection of the palm groves, olives, figs, almonds, and alfalfa grow in the fertile valley soil. The restored ksar is impressive, but it’s the many crumbling kasbahs that captivate visitors. The Monday souk is a bustling market and the best place in Morocco to buy handcrafted pottery.

The Todgha Gorge is a sight to behold, standing nearly 200 meters high and only 10 meters wide at its narrowest point. One of the most mesmerizing things to do in Morocco is to climb the massive rock wall that magically changes color as the sunsets. Although the tourism-related vendors at the bottom of the gorge have tainted the experience, there are still plenty of reasons to visit this destination.
